Destination

Discover Val della Torre and beyond

Val della Torre is a quiet village nestled in the hills of Piemonte, less than half an hour from Turin — yet it feels like a world apart. Green valleys, forested paths and fresh mountain air: this is the place to truly catch your breath.

Explore on foot

Trails fan out in every direction through forests and meadows, suitable for both leisurely walkers and more experienced hikers. A definite highlight is Monte Musinè, offering sweeping panoramic views over the Susa Valley — and on a clear day, you can see the Alpine peaks in the distance. Along the way you’ll discover little chapels, old farmhouses and forgotten paths that make you feel like you’re uncovering the real Piemonte.

Get out on a bike

The area is wonderfully suited for cycling. The nearby Val di Susa offers rugged mountain bike trails through the forest, but there are also scenic routes for more relaxed riders. Most roads are paved, making it enjoyable for touring cyclists too. The hills do offer some real climbs — an e-bike is definitely not a bad idea!

For the adventurous: parasailing is also possible here.

The Parco Naturale La Mandria — one of the largest protected parks in Italy, directly alongside to the former royal villas of the House of Savoy — is a 25-minute drive away.

And Turin?

For a city day out, Turin is just half an hour away — elegant, full of history and home to world-class museums.

2 · Nature · History

Parco La Mandria · ~30 min by car

A large natural park with a royal history. Cycling is the best way to explore it. The park can be entered through multiple gates. Highlights include Borgo Castello and Castello della Mandria.

Two natural lakes nestled in a nature reserve, beloved by locals. Perfect for quiet walks, birdwatching, and picnics away from the crowds.

4 · Nature · Lake

A quiet alpine valley, perfect for hiking, nature, and peace. The highlight is Lago di Malciaussia, a crystal-clear mountain lake surrounded by high peaks.

5 · Medieval · Panorama

A medieval abbey perched on a rock with breathtaking views over the Alps and the Susa Valley. One of Piemonte's most iconic landmarks, barely known to foreign visitors.

6 · Alpine Lake · Day Trip

Lago di Ceresole Reale · Gran Paradiso National Park · ~1h45 by car

A little further, but absolutely worth it. An alpine lake at 1582 m inside Italy's oldest national park, with kayaking, windsurfing, scenic walks, and ibex sightings.

About your hosts

Welcome to Casa Fenicottero

Hi, we're Karen and Bertica — and we warmly welcome you to our Casa Fenicottero! Karen is from the sunny island of Aruba and Bertica from the beautiful island of Bonaire. Both islands are located in the Caribbean Sea, close to the coast of Venezuela, and are part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

We met each other on Bonaire, and our friendship quickly grew into a close friendship we wouldn't trade for anything. In 2023 we took a leap of faith: we traded the blue Caribbean Sea for the green mountains of Piemonte. It wasn't just a move — we rolled up our sleeves and turned this house into something beautiful, step by step. Because for us, a home isn't just a place to sleep. It's a place where you feel welcome, where the details matter, and where you can truly unwind — even if you're only staying for a few nights. And the name? It's no coincidence. On Aruba and Bonaire, the flamingo is more than a beautiful bird — it colours the landscape, it belongs to the islands, and anyone who sees one standing in the shallow water never forgets it. Fenicottero is the Italian word for flamingo — and so our home carries a piece of the Caribbean within it. 🦩 Our shared passions? Riding motorcycles, caring for our beloved dogs, making every place feel like home — and making sure you leave Casa Fenicottero with a full heart and memories that last.

Benvenuti a casa nostra!
